Viewing the Gallery Images

The main photo gallery requires the Flash Player plugin and a web browser with JavaScript enabled. If you are unable to see them, you can try looking at my Smugmug page instead :

As another alternative, I've also created a new style gallery. You can view the photos one by one, and use your left and right arrow keys to navigate. Alternatively, you can click on the left and right arrows or click the centre symbol to start a slideshow. There are 4 galleries in total : Before, During, After and Details - you can jump to them directly :

Before1 - Before the Ceremony (preparation, arrival at church etc.)
During1 - During the Wedding Ceremony
After1 - After the Ceremony
Details1 - Details (rings, wedding bouquet etc.)

How do I use the slideshow controls?

Most of the descriptions below are self-explanatory.
In the version used on this site, the numbers have been replaced with thumbnails for each image.

Cost of Wedding Photography

It's often discussed, so I decided to write a little bit about the price of Wedding Photography. I know it can appear to be expensive, and I wanted to explain here, some of the factors which make up the amount charged by a good professional photographer.

These days, there are photographers available at all price levels - from "free' to "where do I get a second mortgage' to pay for this. At every price level, you will find people who are worth what they are charging (or more !) and you will find people who are just "chancing their arm'.

All photographers will incur some of the costs listed below, but as a generalisation the better and more professional photographers will have more of them - simply because they don't try to cut corners.

I know it's a bit of a cliche, but your wedding day will go by in a blur. When the cake is eaten, the wine is drunk and function room cleared - what will you have left : memories, each other, the rings and the photographs.
And do remember - the photos are not just for you, but for your extended family, and for the children, grandchildren and future generations yet to come. Many times, you will only come to recognise the true value of your photos far in the future.

So, having started, here are some of the things your cost actually covers :

- Pre and post wedding meetings with the bride and groom
- "Scouting" visits to the wedding locations, to view and pick the best locations for photographs
- Wedding Day Coverage (5-10 hours or even more)
- File backups (at least 3 copies) and archival copies
- Online Image folders on a proofing website
- Standard image selection and editing
- Album layout, design and proofing
- Album and sundry materials purchase
- Further enhancement and finishing of selected images

Overall, rather than being just 1 days work, a typical wedding will often account for about 40-50 hours working time.

In addition to this, there will be other standard overheads :

- Professional photography equipment purchase, maintenance and renewal.
Typically - it would cost more to just hire all the equipment I carry for a wedding, than I charge for covering the same wedding ! Like all professional photographers, I have backup equipment for everything (even including myself - via a network of other photographers !)

- Insurance - PL (Public Liability) and equipment insurance
6.5 million euro PL insurance is required to shoot on certain properties

- Ongoing education and training - regular updating of skills is important to stay aware of current trends and techniques. I would attend at least one major and a number of more basic training sessions each year.

- Marketing, magazines (photography and fashion), research, website and internet charges, specialist forum fees and many others.

- Computer hardware and software, with regular expensive upgrades

- Studio costs (including rates and additional insurance)

- Last but not least, taxes (VAT & Income Tax)
