Continuing the Wedding Venue theme (of places I have I have photographed in) next off is Barberstown Castle at Straffan, Co. Kildare. A very interesting location, with great staff (so much so that the bride asked for some photos of them to be included in her album).

Of course, I don’t just do Wedding Photography - took some photographs at a First Communion last weekend. Apart from tea and cakes at the local school, the parents had a wonderful buffet (and Bouncy Castle) back at the house. These are just a few of the many cakes there - they were even nicer to eat than to look at !

Portugal Trip

I was recently on a wine-club trip to Portugal - with no Golf or Port (well, not quite true, we did have some Port along the way).

As a little side-trip, we visited this boutique hotel which was part of the Malhadinha Wine estate.

An extremely impressive set-up - the winery, the hotel and the restaurant. The owners themselves (the Soares family) were also outstanding in their friendliness and hospitality.

Casa Batlló, Barcelona

Had a few days break in Barcelona recently, so thought I’d post a picture here (a bit larger than normal to show the details). Barcelona of course has many Modernist and Gaudi buildings, and this is another imaginative example.

Royal Hospital Kilmainham

Taken recently in the formal gardens of the Royal Hospital in Kilmainham. Incidentally, this location (though not the garden itself) will be the location for the upcoming Leonard Cohen concert.

Barry Flanagan Hares in Dublin

This is just a fun photo I took a while ago in Dublin. Thre was an exhibition of Barry Flanagan’s hares from O’Connell Bridge to Parnell Square. This one shows Liberty Hall in the background. The hares are now gone - and Liberty Hall won’t be around for much longer (in its present shape anyway).

Lifebelt by the Liffey

Just a quick image taken during a photo session by the Liffey yesterday.
The light was quite good, but most of the time it was freezing outside.

Iveagh Gardens - Dublin

I have used this location a couple of times for Wedding Photographs (with the permission of the OPW). It’s a lovely location, right in the heart of Dublin. It was greatly underused for many years - mainly due to the fact that many people never knew it existed. In more recent times, thanks to such events as Taste of Dublin and the Dublin Comedy Festival, many more people have become aware of its existence.

Markree Castle - Sligo

I took these (and some more) photos as part of the preparation for a wedding there. Wherever possible, I like to visit all the wedding locations in advance, to work out some ideas on angles, lighting and any other issues which might arise. Markree is a very photogenic location, with endless possibilities for photographs.

Unfortunately, on the actual day of the Wedding, the light/weather outside wasn’t great, so outdoor photos were limited. Luckily, the interior is just as interesting !

Alexis Restaurant - Dun Laoghaire

I took the original website and publicity photographs when this restaurant was first opened. Since then, it has gone on to gain virtually universal praise from the media critics and always has a buzzy atmosphere.
The photographs I took have appeared in many newspapers and magazines, most recently the one below in the Dun Laoghaire Express, last week :
