As mentioned in my previous post, the Dun Laoghaire festival of World Cultures took place here over last weekend. It’s now reached the 10th Anniversary, and as always was a brilliant event. I’m posting some photos taken yesterday – and this time I’m concentrating on some of the performers who took part. I’ll have more photos on my website later, and will add a link here.

The programme for the 2010 festival has now been published. This year it’s earlier than previously (used to be n August) - July 23-25th.

Dun Laoghaire FOWC 2010

I’ve been going to this ever since it started and have been an occasional volunteer and regular photographer there. It’s always a great festival, and I’m looking forward to going along again this year.

I can’t really have a post without a photo, so here’s some pictures of Dun Laoghaire Harbour taken last night. It was a beautiful clear night, with some lovely light in the sky as the sun set. I didn’t have my tripod with me, so all these are taken handheld (or resting the camera against one something along the pier) :

Well, like everyone else, we’ve been having the same cold and snowy weather here in Dun Laoghaire.
Here are two photos taken in Crosthwaite Park on New Year’s Day – most of the snow had melted at this stage :

Just as a change from wedding photography – I was at the DLR FOWC (Festival of World Cultures) last weekend. I didn’t have much free time during the weekend, so just managed a few quick photos. But I did manage to see Jane Birkin in the Pavilion theatre that night. I suppose the phrase ‘living legend’ might be a little too over the top, but an amazing performance nonetheless.

I acted as a volunteer photographer for the festival this year – as well as shooting a wedding at the weekend (images later). I like to support the festival and have worked in the information office previously. Here are a few pictures to give you a flavour of the weekend :

Alexis Restaurant – Dun Laoghaire

I took the original website and publicity photographs when this restaurant was first opened. Since then, it has gone on to gain virtually universal praise from the media critics and always has a buzzy atmosphere.
The photographs I took have appeared in many newspapers and magazines, most recently the one below in the Dun Laoghaire Express, last week :

Ferris wheel

My last photo for now from the Dun Laoghaire Festival this year.

More difficult to take than I expected. The wheel wasn’t turning very fast, and I found it hard to get a long enough exposure to get really good light trails. I suppose I should have used an ND filter – but didn’t have one with me (hadn’t really expected to need one for this !).

Was driving around the M50 yesterday, and saw the same wheel (I think) being erected in a field near Palmerstown.

Went down to the festival again this afternoon. Luckily the weather was good, and Dun Laoghaire was packed. Here’s one of my first photos from the day – I’ll post some more later.
